Recent data trend

In April 2018, the average exchange rate of USD/JPY was 107.49, with Yen depreciating from the average of 106.01 in March 2018.The Real Effective Exchange Rate of Yen in March was 76.08 (2010=100), depreciating from 74.43 in February 2018. The level is still very weak though, comparable to where yen was in the late 1970s. ...

Effective Exchange Rates

Nominal EER of USD is calculated as geometric weighted averages of bilateral exchange rates. Real EER of USD uses the same weighted averages of bilateral exchange rates adjusted by relative consumer prices.The effective exchange rate indices for USD (nominal and real) are released on a monthly basis by the Bank of International Settlements (BIS). Note: The Yen Index represents the nominal effective exchange rate of the yen (daily). The methodology of its calculation is basically based on that of the effective exchange rate released by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). (http://www.bis.org/statistics/eer/index.htm). The weights of trade are calculated once every three years.
