Notes: On the difference between the European Center of Decease Control 9ECDC) and Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) regarding the covid-19 statistics on Japan. According to the source (ECDC https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/publications-data/download-todays-data-geographic-distribution-covid-19-cases-worldwide) for charts on this page, the daily confirmed cases had spike of 1,401 cases on April 12th, while it was 680 on April 11th and 507 on April 13th. However, according to the data published by MHLW, the daily confirmed cases on April 12th was 530. We are yet to find out the exact source of the difference. If we take the total number of confirmed cases from April 6th to 12th, the gap between two data source is relatively small, ECDC data - 3,477, MHLW data - 3,549. Thus the difference between ECDC and MHLW comes from the difference in the reporting date. In our view, given the unusual spike on April 12 in the ECDC data series, we think MHLW data is more accurate. While we are keeping the ECDC data here for the sake of consistency with other countries, we would urge our users to refer to MHLW data we provide in a separate page below.
